Mustafa Karadayi meets a former US national security adviser and an influential ex-congressman at the Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum in Bucharest

Security challenges in Europe and the Balkans amid the war in Ukraine were discussed by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) leader Mustafa Karadayi and ret. Gen. James Jones -former head of the United States European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe and a national security adviser to US president Barack Obama.

Karadayi and Gen. Jones met at the auspices of the 22nd Parliamentary Intelligence-Security Forum, which is currently being held in Bucharest. MRF deputy chairman Stanislav Anastasov also attended the top-level international conference dedicated to global security.

The role of the Forum in guaranteeing global security was discussed by Mustafa Karadayi and the chairman of the organisation – former US congressman Robert Pittenger, a member of the House of Representatives until 2019.

The interparliamentary Forum sees the participation of US congress members, ministers of defence and foreign affairs from European countries, as well as chairs of the respective parliamentary committees dedicated to security and co-operation on international relations. The event is hosted by Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca.

The Forum is dedicated to global security amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.

On the first day of the event, discussions focused on topics such as "The War in Ukraine: Reshaping the Global Security Map", "Is Diplomacy Drifting? The Present and The Future of Foreign Affairs", "Security, Intelligence and Defence Challenges", "Cyber Environment, 5G and Emerging Threats" and "Human Trafficking and Terrorism".

Foreign minister Dmitro Kuleba of Ukraine is taking part in the discussion, as well as Olga Vasylevska and Yelyzaveta Yasko – members of the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, responsible for foreign affairs and topics such as payments, information systems, money laundering prevention taxes and customs. They all spoke on the topic of the war in Ukraine.

Diplomacy as a matter of foreign relations was also touched upon by a significant number of speakers at the forum, including Ukrainian MPs, other than the above mentioned. The problem was also remarked by the member of the British House of Lords Baroness Neville-Jones and representatives of American think-tanks and associations studying international relations in the context of global security. Among the speakers was the representative of the Atlantic Council and the former US undersecretary of state for democracy and human rights Nathan Sales.
